Transforming Beauty: My Journey Through Whole30®
When we consciously invest in our external appearance, it’s easy to overlook what truly fuels our beauty from within. The way we feel mentally and physically, the vibrancy of our skin, the strength of our hair—these are reflections of our internal health.
Having navigated the Whole30® program several times, I've experienced firsthand how food acts as a cornerstone to well-being. My first journey through Whole30® emerged during a period marked by a herniated disc. I sought control over my weight with clean eating while unable to maintain my fitness routine. The process required considerable effort, investment, and sheer willpower. Yet the results were transformative; I not only felt incredible, but I also regained control over my weight and broke free from medications. This journey solidified my belief in the power of nourishment—it truly starts with the food we choose to fuel our bodies.
Reflecting on my childhood, I uncovered a disheartening relationship with food. I realized that I had been living to eat rather than eating to live. This epiphany was unsettling but necessary for growth.
At 41, while pregnant with my daughter, I attribute my relatively smooth pregnancy to a predominantly paleo diet. I must confess, I couldn't stick to Whole30® guidelines entirely and indulged in a few guilty pleasures like Wendy’s burgers—though I cleverly disposed of the evidence discreetly. These experiences highlight the delicate balance of nourishing our bodies while allowing for occasional indulgences.
Ultimately, embracing a healthy lifestyle and eating mindfully can invigorate not only our appearance but our overall essence. Celebrating our unique beauty starts within; it's about nurturing ourselves comprehensively so that we can radiate confidence, strength, and vitality from the inside out.
We can fast forward to my third successful Whole30® cleanse, and even though the month was hard, I feel fantastic. Clarity, more energy, no more heartburn, and my body no longer craves sugar, carbs, or processed foods—these are my rewards. Was it easy? No. But I wanted to get to this place again.
With each cleanse, I've honed my shopping, cooking, and budgeting skills. I’m not just surviving; I’m thriving. I never view this as a diet with a start and endpoint. It’s a lifestyle change, a commitment to being healthier and feeling better so I can chase after my dreams.
At this stage in my life—with a four-year-old and a business—I refuse to watch from the sidelines. When my daughter asks to run and play, I want to join her, not feel held back because I'm tired or overweight. I also want her to grow up with a healthy relationship with food; it starts with me.
Life happens. It knocks us off our horses, but the important thing is to get back on and ride the best we can.
The picture I’ve shared is of my well-loved book. Its spine is broken, and the pages are stained from countless meals. The remnants still attached are adorned with my daughter’s artwork, making it easy to locate the pages I need. This book is indicative of my journey—imperfect yet cherished. It’s filled with knowledge and always there when I need it.
